The Barbie movie
Although Barbie was already an established hundred-million-dollar brand, the name has seen a significant spike in value since the announcement of the Barbie movie in 2022. Between 2021 and 2023, Barbie’s global brand value almost doubled. The majority of Americans who were interested in viewing or had already seen the film in theaters were between the ages of 18 and 44.
Barbie’s origins
Barbie is a tall plastic doll invented by Ruth Handler in the United States back in the late 1950s. Ruth and her husband co-founded Mattel, Inc., which has become one of the world’s largest toy companies today. Just a couple of years after Barbie, Mattel brought out the doll’s number one companion, Ken. Both dolls were named after the Handlers’ children, Barbara and Kenneth.
