The GR YARIS Rally1 HYBRID: A new generation of hybrid rally car. The Toyota GR YARIS Rally1 HYBRID is a brand-new rally car designed to the revolutionary new-for-2022 FIA Rally1 technical regulations, which represent rallying's most significant technical overhaul for a generation.
World Rally Cars are heavily modified in order to achieve maximum performance, but they are based on production cars. Since they are extensions of production cars, they are fitted with license plates and are able to drive on public roads.
The cost of new hybrid WRC cars threatens to price young drivers out of the top of the sport, Malcolm Wilson has warned. As it stands, each of the new generation of cars will cost around €1m (£850,000); five times that of a feeder series WRC2 car, according to the M-Sport boss.
Unlike special stages, the road sections are run on public roads that are also open to normal traffic, so drivers must adhere to the normal rules of the road in that country. For this reason, WRC cars must be fully road-legal and carry number plates and mandatory safety equipment.
Subaru built the reputation of its STI division by spending years on the top spot of the World Rally Championship (WRC) podium. The brand exited WRC in 2008 and hasn't been back since, but it's reportedly considering a comeback with help from partner and part-owner Toyota.
"The sudden deterioration of the global economy made it necessary for the company to focus its resources more tightly," Mitsubishi said in a statement. Mitsubishi won the storied Dakar Rally 12 times in 26 appearances, including a record seven consecutive victories from 2001 to 2007.
What rally car does Ford use?
The M-Sport Ford World Rally Team (WRT) today gave motorsport fans their first look at the exciting competition livery that will help the new M‑Sport Ford Puma Hybrid Rally1 car electrify the 2022 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC).
Most rally cars use special composite tyres which cannot be used on road vehicles. These tyres get an extremely strong side wall that absorbs significant impact in off-road conditions at high speeds. The tyres come in strong, medium and soft, which drivers choose based on the stage location.
In short, it's “Unleaded 95–102 Octane RON”, and the actual fuel is likely to be at the top end of that octane rating, as that allows for the highest tuning (see below for specifications of actual fuel used in the 2022 season).
Instead of passing out through the car's exhaust and into the atmosphere, those waste gases are re-routed back to through a turbine in the turbo. That turbine is then connected to a compressor, which squashes the air down, making it denser and giving the driver more boost, more torque and more power.
A rally car might or might not be legal for road use. To ride a car on the road you need to have all the lights working, you even need a windshield defroster. A rally car is usually a car that is taken to a racetrack on rally days.
The company built several sporty variants, including the GTX and the GT-R. Constructed to hom*ologate its Group A rally cars, they had turbocharged engines, all-wheel drive, and a great soundtrack.
The Ralliart brand gained increasing recognition in proportion to the track record they built as a factory-backed racing team. They have been on hiatus since Mitsubishi Motors stopped participating in rally competitions in 2010, but the Ralliart brand made a comeback in 2021.

They're generally road legal so yes they could be used as a daily drive but… They don't always have normal handbrakes so parking could be an issue, worked on a cosworth with an hydraulic one. The seat harness isn't the quickest thing to get into, or out of for everyday use.
The three letters WRX, stand for World Rally Experimental, and marked a serious assault by Subaru on the World of Rallying.
Why do rally cars backfire so much?
Why do rally cars backfire and how? The backfire and loud popping is caused by the anti-lag system where fuel is squirted directly into the exhaust manifold before the turbo with the intention of keeping the turbo spinning at high speed so there isn't any turbo lag, once the green light turns on.
Subaru left the World Rally Championship all the way back in 2008, citing financial downturn as the reason the company would wind down its signature racing program. The brand has participated in American rally since, but it has not been involved in European professional racing over the past decade and a half.
Their max speed is slightly above 120mph…. Their average speed varies a lot depending on the stage and the surface of the stage but is much below that top speed…. Also, keep in mind that nowadays WRC rally car are much slower than the Group 5 of the days in terms of top speed.
Race cars don't have mufflers. It's because the way mufflers work slows down the airflow out of the engine. You can't put air into the engine until the air from the last cycle is exhausted.
On the roads that are closed to the public, where the racing actually happens, speeds on these twisty gravel roads average between 50 and 70 miles per hour, which occasional bursts over 100 mph on the straights.
