Developing an impact investing strategy and taking subsequent action steps can be organized into three stages: PREPARE, BUILD, and REFINE.
In 2023, we expect to see a significant increase in the use of technology and data in impact investing. This pattern reflects the growing accessibility of information and technology resources that can assist investors in recognizing and quantifying the social and environmental effects of their financial decisions.
The global impact investing market is poised for substantial growth, with forecasts indicating that it will reach the remarkable milestone of $4.5 trillion by the end of 2030.
“Despite the media making headlines about “investors” having made a fortune in recent weeks with a few stocks, I still believe that the best way to make a fortune on the stock market requires only four ingredients: Preparedness, Prudence, Patience and Presence.”
Amount: Aim to save at least 15% of pre-tax income each year toward retirement. Account: Take advantage of 401(k)s, 403(b)s, HSAs, and IRAs for tax-deferred or tax-free growth potential. Asset mix: Investors with a longer investment horizon should have a significant, broadly diversified exposure to stocks.
There are a number of risks and challenges associated with impact investing. One of the key risks is that impact investments may not generate the intended social or environmental impact. Another risk is that financial returns may be lower than anticipated. There are a number of different types of impact investments.
While ESG investing operates as a framework to assess material risks and opportunities for firms, impact investing is an investment strategy that seeks to first and foremost create a specific, measurable social or environmental benefit.
There are four phases of impact: contact and collapse, displacement, dispersion, and retraction. The angle of impact can be seen from the presence of elongations or tails. The longer the tail, the more acute the angle of impact.

Factor investing is seen by most investors as a third way of investing between traditional passive and active. It has features that are similar to passive investing such as its transparent, rules-based and low-cost nature. But like active investing it has an active return, as illustrated in the picture below.
The three-fund portfolio consists of a total stock market index fund, a total international stock index fund, and a total bond market fund. Asset allocation between those three funds is up to the investor based on their age and risk tolerance.
The Rule of 100 determines the percentage of stocks you should hold by subtracting your age from 100. If you are 60, for example, the Rule of 100 advises holding 40% of your portfolio in stocks. The Rule of 110 evolved from the Rule of 100 because people are generally living longer.
