When Anna was there~ When marnie was there, a masterpiece, as expected from Studio Ghibli I watched this movie many times without getting bored and each time I finish it I be like “was Marnie a ghost? Or was anna hallucinating? Aren’t hallucinations unreal? Then why did what she lived was written in Marnie’s diary?” I needed a logical explanation and this interpretation came to my mind. “I love you more than any person I’ve ever known.” - Marnie. I think that anna is a dear friend of Marnie, they gor separated or she died, and then she got reincarnated into Marnie’s grand-daughter “Are you real? You look like the girl I’ve been seeing in my dreams.” - Anna Anna gets into a hallucinatory state where she lives/sees her previous self’s memories. “-You remember I said last night that you were my secret. - I remember,and you’re my secret too.” If she was a dear friend of hers, why didn’t Marnie mention her in her diary? I think it was because her nanny and the 2 maids invaded her privacy, and might’ve read her diary at some point. That’s why she torn the pages including Kazuhiko and the silo. I suppose she was afraid of them knowing she has dear ones, because they might tease her...? Idk something like that. And the literal translation of the japanese title “omoide no marnie” is “Marnie of [my] memories”, Marnie if Anna’S memories, she wasn’t dreaming, thise were legit memories of real events.
