Prototyping is the production of a small number of samples before formal production to test and confirm the performance and quality of the circuit board.
So, why are the prices for prototype sohigh? The main reasons are as follows:
1. Cost of high-precision equipment
The SMT process requires the use of high-precision placement machines and welding machines. These devices are expensive and require high maintenance costs. Therefore, processing plants need to allocate the cost of these equipment to each proofing project, resulting in relatively high prices.
2. Engineering design and process development costs
Before proofing, the factory needs to carry out engineering work such as circuit board design and wiring, and formulate corresponding production process and quality control standards. These tasks require professional engineers, so certain engineering design and process development costs are also required.
3. Small batch production costs are high
Proofing is usually produced in small batches, which means that processing plants need to invest the same production resources and time for a small number of products. Compared with mass production, the cost of small batch production is relatively high.
4. High demand for customization

Proofing is usually carried out according to the customized needs of customers. Each customer's needs may be different, which results in more preparation and production adjustments for processing plants, increasing production costs.
The reason why the price of small batches of SMT proofing is still high is due to the combination of factors such as the cost of high-precision equipment, engineering design and process formulation costs, high costs of small batch production, and high demand for customization.
Although the price is relatively high, the benefits of Proofing are also obvious. Through proofing, we can ensure that the performance and quality of the circuit board meet the expected requirements, reducing the risks and costs of subsequent production and repair.
Now you know why the PCBA Prototype is higher? Thanks so much for your reading!
