The Jail uses video visitation to minimize the potential introduction of contraband during the visitation process and to reduce resident movement. In order for a resident to receive a visit he/she must be incarcerated for at least 72 hours.

Public Fingerprinting

The general public can come to the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center for fingerprinting services. Those seeking such services should check in at the visitor's window, and they will be directed to the proper location. The fee for fingerprinting is $5; please bring exact change. The lobby is open from 9 a.m. to 4:40 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Visitation

If you wish to visit a resident, you must setup an account online at www.SECURUSTech.net. Be aware that a resident may refuse to see any visitor. Out-of-state visitors who present an out of state picture I.D. may be granted one unscheduled visit if space is available.

Rules & Regulations

  • Visitors suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be allowed to visit.
  • Visitors must be at least 17 years of age or must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to schedule online visits.
  • Members of the Clergy related to a resident fall under the rules of general visitation.
  • Any visitor who exhibits disruptive conduct or behavior may have their visit cancelled at any time.

Proper Attire

  • Visitors must wear proper attire which conforms to reasonable standards. Halter tops, underwear-type t-shirts, tank tops, fish net shirts, or any type of shirt or pants made with see through fabric are not allowed by any visitor (male or female).
  • If the Visitation Officer feels that a visitor's clothing is inappropriate, the visit may be denied.
  • Visitors must remain fully clothed during the visit.
  • Shoes and shirt are mandatory.

Money

The Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center operates a cashless system for residents. This means incarcerated individuals are not allowed to have U.S. currency. Every resident in the facility has an account that allows the resident to make purchases from the commissary. The resident will utilize their resident number located on their armband and their birth date to use the kiosk system in the housing units to place orders. A maximum amount of one hundred dollars can be spent each week on commissary; however all items must be stored in the residents bin or box.

Money can be deposited into the residents Canteen account at the Kiosk located in the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center Lobby, or by sending money orders through the U.S. Mail (Do not send Cash or Personal Checks), or online at touchpayonline.com (Site #229405). Care packages can also be sent online at shop.icaregifts.com.

Money can be deposited into the residents Phone and Tablet accounts online at www.SECURUSTech.net. All money orders should be made out to the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center. The resident's name and number should only be placed on the memo line. Any money orders altered or made out in any other manner will not be accepted and will be returned to sender.

For money to be available for residents to use for Canteen it must be deposited before 8:00am on Monday.

Property/Money Releases

Resident's valuable property/personal property, and money may be released to any person between the hours of 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. - 4:30 a.m. daily provided the resident approves and signs the Valuable Property/Cash Release Form. No cash releases will be made once a transaction has been made on the resident's account. The only exception will be for a bondsman or an attorney. All other extenuating circ*mstances must be approved by a Captain or Command Duty Officer after hours. Money will be released in a check made out in the resident's name only. Checks will not be given to residents to be endorsed.

Mail

The following items must be mailed directly to the facility:

  • Once the mail is received at the SECURUS Digital Mail Center it will be digitally scanned and available to be viewed on tablets.
  • Failure to properly address the envelope may result in your mail being returned or delayed.
  • Pictures, drawings etc. will be accepted for scanning and delivered in the same manner.
  • Anything that cannot be scanned will be returned to sender. This includes but is not limited to paper that exceeds 8.5x 11 inches and all non-paper items.
  • All packages and certified mail will be returned to sender.
  • Any person sending any personal mail that wishes to have it returned to them must include a self-addressed, stamped envelope included with the original mail. All physical mail will be destroyed 60 days after it is uploaded.

The following items are not permitted to be mailed into the jail:

  • Food items
  • Clothing
  • Books, magazines, newspapers, etc.
  • Cosmetics, toiletries, etc.
  • Stationary, envelopes, postage stamps, pencils, pens, etc. (Note: These items are available for purchase on the canteen. Should a resident not have sufficient funds to purchase these items, the jail will provide access to such items 'free' at no cost to the resident up to two (2) personal letters per week)
  • Cash, personal checks, second party checks, traveler's checks
  • Musical or electronic greeting cards.
  • Paper clips, staples, rubber bands, stickers, glue, tape, string, or other similar items
  • Prepaid phone cards
  • Polaroid photographs
  • Razor blades, disposable razors, or any item that may be used as a weapon
  • Any item declared to be contraband under South Carolina State Law and/or by the Detention Center Administrator

Telephones

Upon completion of the booking process, residents will be allowed access to a telephone where they will have the opportunity to make a free local telephone call to notify their family, friends, or attorney that they have been arrested. All resident phone calls after processing are collect calls in nature. If a resident attempts a collect call and the call cannot be accepted for billing or blocking issues, the resident and family member will hear a recorded message from SECURUS explaining how to set up an account. Tablet Services for Inmates

SECURUS Technologies provides handheld tablets to residents to allow them to access specialized content and services while they are detained at the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center. By using the tablets, residents will be able to receive and send messages, read available eBooks, get an education, listen to self-help and religious podcasts, access law library, listen to music, watch movies/television episodes, or play games. Tablets enable residents to stay in touch and spend their time productively.

E-Messaging with Residents

  • In order to set up the ability to exchange messages with a resident on the internet, friends and family will need to go to SECURUS Technologies Family and Friends website www.SECURUSTech.net or download the SECURUS mobile app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
  • After setting up the account and depositing enough money for a message and for the resident’s reply, friends and family can send the message. You can also send photo or video attachments for an additional fee.
  • Cost: Each Message Stamp costs $0.25*. Each message costs one stamp.
    • Photo Attachments cost $0.25* or one message stamp
    • Video Attachments cost $0.50* or two message stamps

A message with a photo attachment costs 2 message stamps = $0.50* A message with a video attachment costs 3 message stamps = $0.75* Attachments may be sent with or without a message.

Tablet Subscription Services

Music, Games, Movies, and TV Shows are among the popular services provided by SECURUS Technologies Unity Tablets and are available at the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center. To purchase these, the resident must buy a subscription using funds that have been deposited in the resident’s SECURUS Debit Account.

As a Family or Friend, to pay for subscription services, you will need to go to the SECURUS Family and Friend Website www.SECURUSTech.net or download the SECURUS app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. After setting up the account and depositing enough money in it to purchase the desired services, the resident can purchase a tablet subscription for $5.00 for the 1st day with the following 29 days at no additional charge.

Once this one-month subscription is purchased, the resident has access to the media store where they can purchase music, games and rent movies and TV shows along with other entertainment options. Purchases and unviewed video rentals will remain available to the resident for up to one year each time the $5.00 monthly subscription is renewed.
