An On-Us Check is simply a check that is deposited or cashed at the same financial institution from which it originated. There are two main ways this happens:
1. The person who wrote the check uses the same bank as the person depositing the check — for example, if someone with an account at Wells Fargo writes a check to another person with an account at Wells Fargo.
2. The person depositing the check uses a different bank, but takes it back to the check writer’s bank — for example, if someone with an account at Wells Fargo writes a check to someone with an account at Bank of America, but that person goes to a Wells Fargo branch to cash the check.
On-us checks can be somewhat easier for the bank to deal with; for instance, they do not have to go through the interbank clearing process (Out-Clearing) and therefore may not need to meet the same Image Quality standards, and aren’t subject to the same transit delays.
