Monitoring Approaches | USAID Learning Lab (2024)

The term monitoring approaches refers to the three main categories of monitoring in the Program Cycle, as specified in ADS 201.3.5.5. These approaches are performance monitoring, context monitoring, and complementary monitoring. Though only performance monitoring is required in the ADS, a well-rounded monitoring plan may employ all three of these approaches, provided they fit the Mission’s programming needs and culture.
