Setting the bar high...Across my career, I have been blessed to serve many great leaders. Mr. Riley (I never learned to call him "John") inspired me and countless others. During my time at Cooper Industries (now Eaton), I had the joy of supporting him in many areas, principally in managing the Cooper Industries Political Action Committee, driving citizen engagement on environmental issues, and media relations. John began his career in the Crouse-Hinds mailroom and would ultimately be the leader in its Boardroom. His business insights also benefited many other organizations, John was a board member of Baker Hughes, Inc., Allstate Corp., Dynegy Inc., and Westlake Chemical Corp. Additionally, he served as a Trustee of Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and as a member of the Syracuse University Board of Trustees. Along the way, he demonstrated the best qualities of leadership - integrity, honesty, consistency, vision, and the ability to articulate a clear, inspiring future direction. Perhaps even more important was his ability to listen actively and empathetically while showing genuine empathy and understanding and sharing the feelings of others.John set the bar high for business leaders and all of us. I will miss him and wish his family peace even as they mourn his passing.#leadership

It’s all Greek to me…Reading tonight about a real economic reversal of sorts. Seems some 1,100 millionaire foreigners relocated to Greece last year, with another 1,200 expected to do so this year, according to the Henley Private Wealth Report released Tuesday.Greece ranked eighth among the top ten countries attracting millionaires. The Henley & Partners report indicates that 128,000 individuals worldwide with investable wealth exceeding one million US dollars plan to migrate to another country by the end of 2024.The data also reveals that Greece currently hosts 64,700 millionaires, 105 individuals with wealth over 100 million dollars, and eight billionaires, with their preferred locations being Attica, Mykonos and Crete. Over the past decade, the number of millionaires in Greece has increased by 14%, the report added. What a change of fortune from a few years ago.

Shark jumping...Unless you were born in the prior century you may never have heard the term "jumping the shark."It signifies when a creative work or entity strays from its original purpose, introducing ideas that are out of sync with its core intent. Coined in 1985 by radio personality Jon Hein, the term originated from a 1977 episode of Happy Days where Fonzie famously leaped over a shark on water-skis. By no means do I think the Taylor Swift juggernaut has reached it’s zenith- but a recent trip down Walmart’s discount aisle has me wondering. Brand extensions to everything from pencil boxes to clothing lines, can generate extra revenue for a time. They can also erode the underlying value of the product. At some point the brand gets watered down and cheapened. Ms. Swift does not need (nor I am sure want) marketing advice from me, but staying of the markdown shelf seems wise.#SharkJumping #PopCulture #CreativeWorks #brands #taylorswift

Lost to history may be the phrase "Get big or get out...." or at least where the term was coined. Not that anyone should remember but this was the policy that Secretary of Agriculture Earl Butz laid out for American farmers in 1973.Butz's policy also included:increasing production, lowering commodity prices, eliminating supply management constraints, encouraging farmers to plant "fencerow to fencerow", and relying on export markets. Offshore drilling can inspire rapid fleet expansion in the good times - but can have negative consequences when utilization falls. Seems getting "big" may offer a solution. Here is wishing my friends at Noble Corporation every success in their proposed combination with Diamond Offshore - and the opportunity to manage well through the cycles that characterize this industry sector.#energystrong #offshore #oilgas

Work life balance..Much is made of work - life balance today. It wasn’t always so. Be sure to value that consept and keep the ratio balanced. Admittedly I sometimes missed the mark. Employers come and go, but staying close to those you love is the truest value creation you can have. So very grateful to my bride of 44 years who has made my career possible while not compromising the wonderful person she is. It seems like yesterday that our journey began..but can’t wait for what the future holds. As I shared with my ChampionX family, the first photo was shot from a tripod using a countdown timer. It used a thing called “film” and was taken on the Russian Kosmorex ® SLR camera I bought at a pawn shop. It was developed in the photo lab of the college newspaper….The original B&W has traveled with me to every office I have occupied since moving to New Orleans in 1979. Our credo is that it’s not my job, but our job. #worklifebalance

The recent storms here in Houston left thousands without power even as summer temperatures began to climb. Thankfully the lights and air conditioning are back on for most. What remains is a foretaste of what a hurricane can mean to the region. Let's not wait for store shelves to be emptied to prepare. In the case of the Gulf Coast - it's not if a hurricane will hit - but when.#emergencyresponse

My first trip offshore was in the back of a Grumman Mallard J-11 (NC2948 -affectionally known as TEXACO 64). Think Fantasy Island - the original. Back then. Texaco operated this airplane along with three other Mallards from their base in Houma, Louisiana. On this trip, I was visiting a state of Louisiana lease block with some members of the media - to let them see firsthand what offshore drilling was all about. Many trips followed - and any day offshore was a treat - regardless of how you got there. I was hooked. What's equally true today as it was then is that the vast oil and natural gas reserves beneath the ocean floor are crucial for meeting global energy demands and reducing dependency on foreign sources. Moreover, offshore drilling creates jobs, stimulates economic growth, and generates revenue for governments through taxes, royalties, and lease payments. It also supports various industries, including oil and gas exploration, drilling services, and transportation. The Grummans are now relics of aviation history - but the need to tell the story of why offshore energy production matters is as keen as ever. That's why I am excited to share an early career opening at Noble Corporation. If you have what it takes to tell the story well to a diverse and international audience - and to be a part of a team that is on the move - this may be the slot for you. Just be careful or you may get hooked, too. #energystrong #oilandgas
