1 Align learning with organizational goals
The first step to creating a positive and supportive learning culture is to align your learning initiatives with your organizational goals and vision. This means that you need to identify the skills, knowledge, and behaviors that are relevant and valuable for your business, and communicate them clearly to your employees. You also need to ensure that your learning programs are aligned with your performance management and reward systems, so that employees can see how their learning contributes to their career development and recognition.

But first, the mission and vision statements of the company must be clearly expressed to all employees. Without the known goal, we cannot all be on the journey together.

This is a little tricky - the key here is that the business head/owner has to be aligned to this - otherwise, it all goes for a toss. To support a learning culture one must provide the following: - The company should have clarity of where they are headed, why are they asking their team to upskill/study- There should be exciting bite-sized training content- Learners must know the before and after of doing the training - Training and performance therein must be a part of annual appraisals/promotions- A periodic leaderboard to be published company-wide - Employees putting in more effort to upskill/study must be rewarded (even if it is a simple Kudos! or a pat on the back)

2 Encourage a growth mindset
A growth mindset is the belief that one can improve one's abilities and potential through effort, feedback, and learning. A growth mindset fosters a positive and supportive learning culture, because it encourages employees to embrace challenges, seek feedback, learn from mistakes, and celebrate achievements. To cultivate a growth mindset in your workplace, you need to model it yourself, and provide constructive and timely feedback to your employees. You also need to create a safe and supportive environment where employees can experiment, ask questions, and share their learnings without fear of judgment or failure.

Incorporate Relational CoversationThe incorporation of relational conversations alongside transactional conversations in the workplace can enhance the learning culture. Relational conversations prioritize building relationships and creating connections, through active listening, empathy, and personal experiences. By supplementing transactional conversations with relational conversations, a more supportive learning environment can be established. This leads to deeper insights and understanding of work, as well as continuous professional development. Ultimately, fostering a workplace culture that values relational conversations can improve employee motivation, engagement, and innovation.

Remember that humanz demonstrate their learning and skills in different ways. If the only signal you are looking for is verbal communication in group settings you'll miss out on the people who are better at signaling in writing or other methods. Cultivate self awareness and open communication about the ways we all can express our best selves.

Identifying SMEs within teams and celebrating their mastery of material or skills is first step. Celebrating these experts and encouraging others to do the same sets the plate for sharing. Find avenues for them to share their knowledge in a public way where they can be appreciated will foster a culture of sharing and inquiry.

Encourage Peer & Social LearningThere is a lot of knowledge, experience & expertise in the collective/group which we can learn from. This is the best form of knowledge share where we are learning from each other. If we are a team size of 30, each person knows something the other person isn't aware of which they can share with others. Some ways to promote it - Learning Lunches, Brown Bags, Mentoring, Book Clubs, Podcasts etc

5 Measure and celebrate learning outcomes
A positive and supportive learning culture is one that measures and celebrates learning outcomes, both at the individual and organizational level. This means that you need to define clear and relevant learning objectives, indicators, and metrics, and track and evaluate them regularly. You also need to recognize and reward employees for their learning efforts and achievements, both formally and informally. You can use methods such as certificates, badges, gamification, testimonials, and recognition programs to celebrate learning outcomes. By measuring and celebrating learning outcomes, you can demonstrate the value and impact of learning, and motivate employees to continue learning.

Embrace mistakes! Our greatest learnings come from when we mess up. When my team makes a mistake, we pause together and figure out what happened. I ask them what they learned and how they'll apply that to the future. We celebrate our mistakes just as much, if not more than our wins. Learning is better than perfect.

A learning culture comes from the ability to make mistakes. In order to foster learning you must allow for individuals, teams, and the organization as a whole to fail in places. Failure and growth is the cornerstone of learning. Failure and punishment is the cornerstone of compliance
