We love our salmon around here and will eat it any way we can get it. Feta and Herb Crusted Salmon is a fave with well over a million views. And our Grilled Salmon Burgers with Avocado Salsa is another healthy salmon recipe.

One thing we don’t love? Tons of work to get to a good meal. That’s one reason we love this recipe! Simple ingredients all mooshed up together with big big flavor!

What you need to make Easy and Healthy Salmon Burgers:

  • about 20 ounces of skinless, uncooked salmon fillet
  • green onions
  • dijon mustard
  • panko crumbs
  • olive oil
  • salt and pepper

Thats a pretty short list for something so yummy and healthy!

We start by rough chopping about 3/4 of the salmon. The rest we will put in either a food processor or even a blender (in a pinch) to make a fine almost paste like consistency. This is going to work as the binder along with the bread crumbs to hold the burger together.

This is a great gluten free, egg free recipe. I used gluten free breadcrumbs. I sautéed red pepper and shallots, Dijon and instead of salt and pepper, I used 1 teaspoon of Old Bay Seasoning. Refrigerated for 45 minutes after forming the patties. and then cooked in a pan with avocado oil. Served with a sweet chili sauce. Easy and tasty recipe!

I have made these two times and they are yummy! I used flavored bread crumbs and I love them! So easy and fast. I agree they fall apart a little so maybe add another egg for moisture.

I made these last night for dinner and they were really excellent. I followed the recipe exactly re: ingredients but I changed up the technique just a wee bit. Once I formed the patties, I was afraid they would fall apart on the grill. Maybe I didn’t mince the salmon fine enough. Anyway, I took one of the burgers and whizzed it about in the food processor then reformed the patties. The processed salmon provided a little sticking power and they grilled up perfectly. I’ll be making these again. Also, I asked the fish monger to remove the skin for me = time saver!

I’m not a salmon fan, but my husband loves it, and my freezer is full of red salmon(we live in Alaska) anyways, since I don’t eat it, I’ve never cooked it.. so please excuse the silly question.. but what about the bones? And Is this recipe using red salmon?

Great recipe! Have you ever frozen extra burgers? wondering if it’s worth trying since I have more salmon than I need to make these…

    • Kathi Kirk says

Hi Kara – I have not tried freezing these so not sure how they would hold up. Would probably depend on if the salmon had been fresh or previously frozen. My opinion would be that they would freeze up well. Glad you like them, let me know if you give it a try!

I freeze them all the time and they come out great. I don’t even thaw them before I put them on the grill. I take them out just a few minutes before cooking.

Kathi, that looks like a super delicious salmon burger! A few years ago I tried those frozen salmon burgers and they didn’t go over with us too well. This looks so good I’m inspired to try making my own. Thanks 🙂
